💡✍️ADN #050: Failing Forward

adn050 artist development artist development newsletter failure indecision progress Nov 05, 2023

“Indecision is the enemy of progress.”

To make progress, you have to, well… progress.

To progress, you have to make mistakes.

None of us get it right all the time.

Rarely do any of us get it right the first time.

In my opinion, people who aren’t afraid to put themselves out there get to the bottom of what not to do faster than those who are too indecisive to try because of their fear of failure.

Artist Development comes with its fair share of swings and misses.

  • Your song didn’t get the reaction you hoped for.
  • Your merch sales are lower than expected.
  • Your social media post didn’t go viral today.

But to quote the great one, Wayne Gretzky, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

So, take shots!

You’ll miss some.

Then, the key is to study and learn from your mistakes.

Don’t be afraid to ask your audience for their opinion.

And don’t be afraid to put yourself out there even if it’s uncomfortable.

We all try things that don’t land as we imagined they might.

The trick is…

If you’re going to fail.

Fail forward.

Because a failure that moves you closer to understanding how to achieve your goals isn’t a failure.

It’s a success!

So, fail so often it doesn’t even feel like you are anymore.

Let failure feed your learning curve.

Let your willingness to try, regardless of the outcome, become your superpower.

Fail forward daily, and soon, you’ll find success.

See you next Sunday!
